  1. 把握短文关键信息和语言特点的能力;

  2. 语言运用的准确性和丰富性;

  3. 对语篇结构的把握能力;

  4. 创造性思维能力。

There were bones of dead animals all over the cave. Fortunately, the tiger was not inside the cave at the time. The deer was trying to lead her young ones out of the cave when she heard a loud roar. She saw the tiger at a distance coming towards the cave. It was dangerous to go out of the cave now. She thought of a plan. The deer raised her voice and shouted, "My deer young children do not weep. I shall capture (捕捉)a tiger for you to eat. You can have a good dinner." The tiger heard these words and became frightened. He thought, "Whose is that strange voice from the cave? A dangerous animal is staying inside to capture me. I shall run away to escape death." The tiger began to run away from there as fast as possible. A jackal (胡狼)saw the running tiger. "Why are you running in great fear?" the jackal asked. The tiger said, "My friend, a powerful and fierce animal is in my cave. The young ones are crying for a tiger to eat. The mother is promising to capture a tiger for them. So, I am running away." The cunning jackal was now sure the tiger was a coward (懦夫). It said, "Don’t be afraid. No animal is fiercer or stronger than a tiger Let us go together to find out." But the tiger said, "I do not want to take a chance. You may run away. I will be left alone to die. So, I will not come with you." The jackal said, "Trust me. Let us knot (打结)our tails together. Then I will not be able to leave you." The tiger agreed unwillingly to this proposal. There was once a boy in ragged clothes running to ask a building contractor(包工头)who wore elegant clothes in a construction site of a skyscraper(摩天大楼),“How could I become as rich as you when I grow up?" With a glance at the boy,the tall and strong-build contractor replied,"I would like to tell you a story first about three diggers.The first digger liked holding a spade(锹)

 without doing anything but saying that he wanted to be a boss in the future.The second digger liked complaining about the long-time work and his low salary.The third digger always quietly devoted himself to digging without making any claims.Several years later, the first digger was still holding his spade in the original place and the second took an excuse of work injury for early

 “Okay,” said our teacher, Mrs. Woodland:“It’s time for the gift exchange.” I was actually a little excited. I knew what a lot of the girls had brought, and any of those gifts would be great, especially my best friend Sara’s. She had made some candy and put it in this super cute bear mug(马克杯). Mrs. Woodland had us put our gifts on our classroom table. Then we opened the gifts like a game. We each drew numbers and we got to the table and chose a wrapped(包装好的)

 gift when our number was called. But we didn’t necessarily have to. We could take a gift from somebody else that had already had their number called—if we thought we’d like that gift better than the wrapped ones.

 When it was my turn, I didn’t take a wrapped gift from the table. And I didn’t take Sara’s either though I really wanted to. I took the perfume(香水)

 Megan had brought instead. I didn’t have enough money to get Mom something special, but the perfume was really nice. She might really like it. I was busy thinking about the perfume and whether Mom would like it or not when there was a big commotion(嘈杂). It had been Hannah’ s turn to choose. She was the last one. And unsurprisingly, she didn’t go for the last wrapped gift on the table. Instead, she’d taken Sara’s gift from Lauren. Well, that meant Lauren had to take the wrapped gift. She looked a little upset when she got to the table. Everyone knew the last gift was from Kali. That was why no one had chosen it. Kali was really poor. And she always brought gifts that no one ever wanted. This time, she brought a pair of old—fashioned crocheted potholders(编织的防烫套垫)!

 “I don’t want these,” Lauren whined(哀怨).“I want my candy back.” “No way,” Hannah protested, keeping the mug of chocolate out of Lauren’s reach. “Then I want Megan’s perfume.” Lauren came over to take my perfume. “Come on, Melanie, trade with me.” Paragraph 1:

 Mrs. Woodland advised me to trade with Lauren since I had always been kind. Paragraph 2:

 “Here,” I said to my mom after I got home, handing her the potholders. “They are an early New Year gift.” 练 模拟演练 4 【河北省承德市高中 2021 届高三第一次调研】阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

 While driving, I sensed something wrong with my car. Pulling into the first parking lot I found, I stopped it and climbed out to assess the situation. My heart sank as I discovered that one of my rear(后面的) tires was flat. I"d bought the secondhand car several months before, but it didn"t include a spare tire. Although I knew I needed to purchase one, my schedule was so tight that I hadn"t done it yet. Because I was working full-time in the emergency room at a local hospital and taking evening classes at a university fifty miles away. Now here I was, alone forty miles from home. In those days, cell phones were a luxury. I had no way to call for assistance. My spirits grew darker the minute I checked the place where I had pulled over. No one was around, except a rusty, red truck. It was getting dark. I had two options: stay in my car until morning or start walking in hopes of finding a convenience store with a pay phone. Neither option appealed to me. I about to grab my purse and set off on foot when a man came out from what seemed to be a law office.

 Pulling a set of keys from his pocket, he locked the office door, and then turned and saw me standing next to my car. I must have looked scared and confused as he headed straight toward me. "Can I help you with anything?" he asked. Judging from his appearance, I decided I could trust him. "I have a flat tire but don"t have a spare," I said, relieved to see him. "I can help you remove the flat and then drive you to a tire shop to get it fixed," he said. I remembered the cautionary(告诫的) words my parents had drilled into my head: Never get in a car with a stranger. "That"s okay," I said. "Thanks anyway." 注意:

 My great-grandfather, my grandfather and my father are farmers, and so are all my family. My father has a fixed idea that I would become a farmer too. Although I respect him and am indeed skilled at doing some farm work, I don’t agree that I should automatically follow in my father’s footsteps. When I was a teenager, my father happened to take me to an airport which belonged to one of his friends. It was the first time I had seen an aeroplane in real life. Knowing that I had never been on board, my father’s friend Tom offered me an opportunity to fly with him in his small aeroplane. I quickly accepted his offer! When we took off, I felt nervous but thrilled. Being up in the clouds and looking at the view below was unlike anything I had ever

 felt. I was just enjoying it. I assumed being a pilot would be the most awesome thing in the whole world. From that day a thought crept into my mind that I wanted to become a pilot, but I doubted whether my father would support me. After all, it was a totally different path from what he had planned for me. Therefore, I put the thought to the back of my mind, because I knew he would still insist on holding onto his previous idea. Anyway, besides helping my father on the farm, I would frequently visit Tom’s airport. Gradually, I got familiar with every button and switch on the aircraft and I learned a lot about planes, such as how to fill the plane with fuel, how to check the engines and so on. But what I had learned just left me wanting more, so I decided to go to college to become a professional pilot. Paragraph 1: This time I would not hide my desire any more.

 Kent was a manager of a furniture agency. His establishment nearly went bankrupt (倒闭)because of the wrong decision he had made. He was so regretful and depressed that he planned to drive to a bar alone to release his emotions. It was near midnight in an extremely cold winter, and the temperature was minus 9 degrees centigrade. There were few people in the street. Suddenly, a figure of an old madam entered his line of sight. She was standing sideways near a platform, dressed in a plain coat, dragging a suitcase, and holding a plastic bag in the other hand. The slight old lady was seemingly more than 80. She was trembling in cutting wind. Now she kept motioning Kent for a ride. Although Kent was somewhat angry about the old madam"s disturbing,he wouldn"t like to leave her in the cold night. He noticed she coughed violently and thought that she might be ill and really needed help. So he

 Fortune Cookie Friends Jenny frowned (皱眉)as she helped her mother and father set out the cooking supplies in the shiny steel kitchen. Her family had just moved here from San Francisco, having bought a small restaurant, which was set to open in the next few days.

 “Moving here was a dumb idea,"

 Jenny complained mostly to herself "What"s that?” Her mother asked, opening a box and lifting out several pots. "Nothing," Jenny mumbled (咕哝).The girl had been angry about the move, but her parents had made the decision and were now too busy getting ready for the grand opening to listen to her complaints. The first few days at her new school hadn"t been easy, either. She found it hard to talk to people she didn"t know, and it seemed like the students hadn"t even noticed her. Jenny sighed and got back to washing dishes. On the day of the grand opening, Jenny"s parents were all smiles, welcoming customers into the restaurant, brightly decorated in gold and red. Even Jenny was in a good mood as she rushed around, seating guests, handing out menus, and pouring tall glasses of water. This was a big day for her family. At one of the tables sat a family with two daughters who were about Jenny"s age. As she filled their glasses, Jenny realized the twins were in her class. Jenny ducked her head down so her long hair covered her face, and she turned away from the table. Jenny"s mother found her soon after, in the kitchen loading the dishwasher. Brownie and Harry were neighbor dogs in Stowe, a beautiful and peaceful town in Lamoille County, Vermont, United States, who met everyday to play together, running after each other joyfully. Like pairs of dogs you can find in most any neighborhood, these two loved each other and played together so often that they had worn a path through the grass of the field between their respective houses. One evening, Brownie"s family noticed that Brownie hadn"t returned home as usual. They went looking for him with no success. Brownie still didn"t show up the next day, and, despite their efforts to find him, by the next week he was still missing. Curiously, the other dog, Harry, showed up at Brownie"s house alone one day. He barked, jumped and pestered(纠缠) Brownie"s human family, showing that he was filled with anxiety. Busy with their own lives, the family just ignored the nervous little neighbor dog and decided to let the missing dog go. Harry refused to take “no” for an answer. Ted, Brownie’s owner, was steadily disturbed by the angry, determined little dog. One morning Harry followed Ted about, barking more insistently, then rushing toward a nearby empty lot and back, as if to say, “Follow me, please!I"s very urgent!”

 Eventually, Ted went after the mad Harry across the empty lot as Harry paused to race back and bark encouragingly. The little dog led the man under a tree, past some tree jungles, to a lonely spot a half mile from the house. There Ted found his beloved Brownie, and he was alive, with one of his front legs falling into a steel trap. At that moment, Ted understood the strange behavior of Harry.

 Feeling regretful, Ted now wished he had taken Harry"s earlier appeals seriously. However, Harry had done more than simply led Brownie’s human owner to his trapped friend. Ted noticed something quite remarkable before him and was shocked that the amount of love that the dog has for his partner could be so outstanding. Firstly I had to think very carefully about which courses I wanted to take, I turned to the school adviser for advice, He is very kind and patient He helped me choose the suitable ones: maths, English, chemistry, world history, and Chinese. I know that Chinese is a very difficult language, but I hope to have a very good command of it and" be fluent when I graduate. My adviser also recommended that I should sign up for advanced literature because I like English and I"m good at it Secondly, I had to choose extra-curricular activities, too. I tried to join the school football team, but the coach told me that I didn"t play well enough. Obviously, I was unhappy and in low spirits, but I won"t quit.
