【篇一】Unit5 Lesson1

Mr.James Scott has a garage in Silbury and now he has just bought another garage in Pinhurst.

Pinhurst is only five miles from Silbury, but Mr. Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage,

so he has just bought twelve pigeons.

Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury.

The bird covered the distance in three minutes.

Up to now, Mr. Scott has sent a great many requests for spare parts and other urgent messages from one garage to the other.

In this way, he has begun his own private 'telephone' service.

【篇二】译文

詹姆斯·斯科特先生在锡尔伯里有一个汽车修理部，现在他刚在平赫斯特买了另一个汽车修理部。

【篇三】Unit5 Lesson2

There are nine open-air public swimming pools in London.

One of them is near Flora's house.

This pool has been one of Flora's and Lucy's favourite places for a number of years now.

The girls have always swum there in all kinds of weather.

'We don't swim there in winter, of course,' they told me.

'It's too cold then. But at other times of the year, swimming in the rain is fun.'

Yesterday, they went to the pool.

It was a very hot day, and a light rain was falling.

They stood at the gate and waited to buy a ticket.

The man at the ticket office shook his head.

'I can't sell you a ticket now,' he said.

'You can't swim in the rain.'

'But that's silly!' Flora said.

'It's wet in the pool. What difference does the rain make?'

'Those are the rules,' the man said.

'Since when?' Flora asked.

'Since this morning,' the man replied.

'You can't go into the pool without a lifeguard.

The lifegurad can't see you when the water is rough.

The water is rough when it's raining. So,'

he said triumphantly, 'you can't swim in the rain!'

【篇四】译文

伦敦有九个露天公共游泳池。

其中一个在弗洛拉的房子附近。

多年来，这个游泳池一直是弗洛拉和露西最喜欢的地方之一。

无论什么天气，姑娘们总是在这里游泳。
